Our Story
Ceylon Sapphire Co. was born from a simple conviction: that the world's finest natural gemstones deserve to reach collectors without the opacity, markups, and uncertainty that have long defined the colored stone trade.
Our founders grew up in Ratnapura — the "City of Gems" — where gem mining has been a way of life for over two millennia. They witnessed firsthand how exceptional stones would pass through five or six intermediaries before reaching their final owner, each adding cost but rarely adding value or transparency.
Today, we bridge that gap directly. Every stone in our collection is sourced from trusted mining operations across Sri Lanka's gem-bearing regions — Ratnapura, Elahera, Balangoda, and beyond. Our in-house gemologists in Colombo evaluate each stone before it enters our inventory, and every piece is accompanied by certification from GRS or GIA.
We don't simply sell gemstones. We connect discerning collectors with stones that have waited millions of years to be discovered.

Our Principles
Full disclosure on origin, treatment, and pricing. No hidden markups, no misleading descriptions. Every stone's journey is documented from mine to market.
We work exclusively with licensed mining operations that provide fair wages and safe conditions. Our miners are partners, not suppliers.
Every stone is independently certified by GRS or GIA. We never misrepresent color, clarity, or treatment status — even when it would be profitable to do so.
We serve collectors, not transactions. Our gemologists are available for consultation at every step, from selection through setting design.
Provenance
Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is one of the world's most concentrated sources of gem-quality corundum. The island's unique geology — ancient metamorphic rocks combined with millions of years of weathering — has created alluvial deposits of extraordinary diversity. Within a single mining pit, one might find blue sapphires, padparadscha, rubies, alexandrite, and spinels.
What makes Ceylon sapphires particularly prized is their characteristic "silk" — microscopic rutile inclusions that scatter light and create the velvety, luminous quality that distinguishes them from sapphires of other origins. This is why "Ceylon" remains a mark of distinction in the world's finest auction houses and jewelry maisons.
